Information for New Members

As you may already have been told, we are a clan who really enjoys our chat. We require every new member to visit the clan chat channel within four weeks of joining, just so we can get to know you and help you more.

If you don't know how to turn on chat, please see below for the process, featuring an explanation so simple that a children's cartoon character could follow it.

All clan members are strongly urged to use the clan forums which can be found at https://kol-notdeadyet.com/forum/ . The forums contain a variety of contests, general chat and announcements, including details of how to use our stash, which are quite important.

You should also take a look at our Clan Charter which sets out all of the clan's rules.

Once you have turned on chat, we'll be able to help you with any questions about quests!

New Member Orientation Challenge

All new clan members are recommended to try out the Orientation Challenge. Put simply, we'll all get to know each other a lot more quickly, and hopefully show off just how great a clan we can be. Don't delay, try it for yourself today!

How to turn on chat:

While logged into the game, in the right hand pane, you should see at the top of the pane:

"You may not enter the chat until you have proven yourself literate".

You can do so at the Altar of Literacy in The Big Mountains. Go to the

Big Mountains—> Temple of Literacy—> Altar of Literacy or, in Dora-Notation:

—>  —>  ! and take the tests there.

Once you have answered the questions there, go to the small pane at the bottom

(next to the word Chat) and type in /channel clan. Then press the "Chat" button. Now you can type normally and there should be some people around that can help you.

Not Dead Yet New Member Orientation Challenge

Welcome to Not Dead Yet (fondly referred to as NDY)! We are happy to have you as a part of our clan, and would like to take you on a tour of all the resources NDY has to offer. We're not talking about the clan stash or rec room furniture - all the clans offer similar resources, and if you're not familiar with those yet, you'll get to know those very quickly. No, today we're talking about those things that make NDY different from the other clans. We have an active chat room, active forums, and some excellent guides to help you along the way. Learning how to find these things and what they have to offer - not to mention getting to know our talkative and friendly members - will speed you right on your way!

The following set of tasks is a kind of orientation to these many tools and friendly people. It even comes with a reward for completion: your very own custom title. Each step includes instructions for "proving" you've accomplished the task, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask in chat and we'll help you on your way!

1. Show up in chat (Congratulations! You've already accomplished the first task! In honor of your success, your Title has been changed to Cadet Member.)
2. Register at the Forum (index.php) then post an introduction in the forums
3. Visit the clan website and take a good look around. Spend a little extra time reading the Charter. Find the question there for new members and ask it in the chat room. As a reward for this, your title will be changed to Educated Member.
4. Find ten different people in Chat and ask each of them a unique question from the list below. (that is to say, you need a total of ten answers to ten different questions - not 100 answers).
   • How did you find KOL?
   • What made you choose your character's name?
   • Why did you choose NDY for your clan?
   • What is your favorite character class (and, of course, why)?
   • If you could have any familiar as a pet in the real world, which would it be?
   • What KOL accomplishment are you most proud of?
   • What is your favorite breakfast food?
   • What is the most horrible meal you've ever had to eat?
   • What's the most unusual place you've ever eaten food?
   • What's the silliest thing you remember having done in KoL?
   • What is your favorite movie?
   • What's the worst movie you have ever seen?
   • Favorite TV show of all time, and why.
   • What book do you read over and over again?
   • Which skill is the silliest (or most hilarious) one in the game, in your opinion, and why?
   • If you could have a piece of equipment (or food / booze / consumable etc) in the real world, which would it be?
   • A real life KoL tattoo - which of all the tattoos in-game would you choose? Or would you invent your own?
   • Pluto: planet or not? :-)
   • If you had a million dollars, what would you spend it on?
   • If you had a million meatstacks (that is, all the meat you can imagine), what in-game treasure(s) would you buy?
   • If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
   • In a war between (pick any two of the following) Zombies / Ninjas / Pirates / Robots / Vampires / Aliens / Weathermen, who would win?
   • If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?
   • Look to your left: what do you see?
5. Post your list of answers in this thread in the forum: As a reward for completing this challenge, your title will be changed to Friendly Member.
6. Find at least five other discussions in the forum and join with your own comments, raising your Post Count to 6. Allow us to recommend that you start with the Introductions Thread, and then look for some other interesting conversations that you can add meaningful comments to. (That is to say, posting one-word replies in the game-threads isn't quite what we're looking for - we want you to discover some of the great resources and conversations that can be found in our forums.) Once you accomplish this, send a kmail to TillyMcMuffin and your title will be changed to Talkative Member. (Make sure you've completed challenges 4 and 5 first.)
7. Meet at least the Charter requirements to be a Regular Member, and after accomplishing the above items, go into chat to request your Custom Clan Title as a reward for completing your orientation.(Note - this last step takes a little time, so please be patient! We hope you'll stay with us for awhile, so what's a couple weeks?)
